- catalyzes pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent breakdown of phosphoethanolamine, converting it to ammonia, inorganic phosphate & acetaldehyde
ethanolamine phosphate + H2O = acetaldehyde + NH3 + phosphate
- KM=680 uM for phosphoethanolamine (at pH 7.4)
- Vmax=1.46 umol/min/mg enzyme (at pH 7.4)

- does not seem to possess aminotransferase activity
