Clinical significance
- the major plasma protein in urine is albumin, normally constituting ~ 1/3 of urine protein
- albumin is 2nd in abundance to uromodulin, a urinary glycoprotein produced by the renal tubules
- thus albumin in urine is a sensitive measure of protein derived from plasma in urine
