Etiology
- IgM antibodies present in serum of patients with infectious mononucleosis secondary to Epstein-Barr virus
- they are present in 90% of patients by the 3rd week of illness
- antibody against animal immunoglobulins
Management
- EBV serology, if heterophile antibody negative & EBV suspected (see Epstein-Barr virus Laboratory:)
