Indications

• assessment of cochlear pathology

Principle

• test based upon phenomenon of recruitment of loudness, observed in patients with cochlear pathology

Procedure

• a constant 20 dB tone (near threshold) is presented
• periodically, an additional 1-5 dB is superimposed on the original tone
• patients with cochlear pathology have a clear advantage in distinguishing the superimposed tones due to the phenomenon of recruitment of loudness
