Introduction
A formal analytic technique based on Bayesian statistics (either Bayes' formula or the hierarchical Bayes' formula). This method permits combining of results from multiple studies with a variety of designs, enabling adjustment for perceived biases of external or internal validity. The confidence profile method produces a probability distribution for the parameter of interest rather than an odds ratio.
