Function
- junctional membrane complex of excitable cells
- mediates cross-talk between cell surface & intracellular ion channels
- converts signal of cell surface voltage sensor to the opening of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca+2-release channels

- localized to invaginations in the plasma membrane t-tubules (transverse-tubule) pinched from both sides by sarcoplasmic reticulum membranes
