screening for dysphagia

Procedure

Step 1:

• examination of voice quality, swallowing complaints, facial asymmetry, & aphasia

Step 2

• water swallow test to evaluate swallowing difficulty, voice change, & pulse oximetry desaturation 2%

Step 2 is performed only if patient fails step 1.
