• role in regulation of both smooth muscle & nonmuscle cell contractile activity via its phosphorylation
• binds Ca+2
• implicated in cytokinesis, receptor capping, & cell locomotion
• phosphorylation increases the actin-activated myosin ATPase activity & thereby regulates the contractile activity
• required to generate the driving force in the migration of cells but not necessary for localization of myosin-2 at the leading edge
• phosphorylation is diminished following epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate tratment
