Function
- myosin regulatory light chain
- role in regulation of both smooth muscle & nonmuscle cell contractile activity via its phosphorylation
- binds Ca+2
- implicated in cytokinesis, receptor capping, & cell locomotion
- phosphorylation increases the actin-activated myosin ATPase activity & thereby regulates the contractile activity
- required to generate the driving force in the migration of cells but not necessary for localization of myosin-2 at the leading edge
- phosphorylation is diminished following epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate tratment
Structure
contains 3 EF-hand domains
Expression
- ubiquitously expressed in various hematopoietic cells
