Introduction
One of the extraocular muscles.
Origin
- inferior part of the common tendinous ring that bridges the superior orbital fissure
Insertion
inferior part of sclera of eye
Action
- primary: downward movement of globe of eye
- secondary: adduction & extorsion of globe of eye
Innervation
oculomotor nerve, inferior branch (CN III)
Physical examination
Test: ask patient to look downward & outward
