Forms posterior pillar of tonsillar fossa.
Origin
Insertion
- posterior border of thyroid cartilage & aponeurosis of pharynx
Action
- narrows fauces
- depresses soft palate
- elevates pharynx & larynx
Innervation
pharyngeal plexus (cranial root of accessory nerve)
