Introduction

An intrinsic muscle of the tongue.

Origin

aponeurosis of dorsum of tongue

Insertion

aponeurosis of inferior surface of tongue

Action

-> flattens & broadens the tongue -> act simultaneously to protrude tongue

Innervation

• motor: hypoglossal nerve (CN XII)
• sensory: lingual nerve
