tarsometatarsal/cuneometatarsal/Lisfranc joint

Introduction

The synovial joints between the tarsal & metatarsal bones.

Consists of 3 joints:

• Medial, between the 1st cuneiform & 1st metatarsal.
• Intermediate, between the 2nd & 3rd cuneiforms & corresponding metatarsals.
• Lateral, between the cuboid & 4th & 5th metatarsals.

Articulation

Articular surface:

• Anterior tarsal bones with bases of metatarsal bones

Articular capsule:

• Fibrous capsule encloses each joint

Ligaments

• Dorsal, plantar & interosseous ligaments

Action

• Gliding or sliding

Innervation

• Deep fibular medial
• Lateral plantar
• Sural nerve

Arterial supply

• Lateral tarsal artery
