subthalamus

Introduction

Part of the diencephalon between the thalamus dorsally & the cerebral peduncle ventrally, lateral to the dorsal 1/2 of the hypothalamus with which it blends. Laterally, it expands into the reticular nucleus of the thalamus. Caudally it is continuous withthe tegmentum mesencephali.
