"tough mother", "pachy" (thick) meninges
Structure
- thick outer of 3 layers of the meninges
- it is a tough protectiveconnective tissue tightly bound to the skull, encasing the cerebral veins
- beneath the dura mater lies the subdural space & the arachnoid
