Introduction

Somatic motor function (lateral rotation of eye).

Efferents

abducens nucleus:

• located in the caudal pons near the 4th ventricle
• fibers exit anteriorly without crossing over
• fibers originating in the abducens nucleus innervates the lateral rectus

Pathology

• cranial nerve VI palsy
