Introduction

The nucleus ambiguous is shared by CN 9 & CN 10.

• paired nuclei located in the mid-rostral medulla anterior to the nucleus solitarius posterior the inferior olive
• fibers originating in the nucleus ambiguous innervate:
  • stylopharyngeus - swallowing (CN 9)
  • pharynx - swallowing (CN 10)
  • larynx (CN 10)
  • levator veli palatini (CN 10)
