Origin

lumbar plexus (L2-L3)

Innervation

• entirely sensory
• innervates anterolateral cutaneous region of thigh

Course

• the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve arises from L2 & L3, runs inferolaterally on the iliacus muscle & enters the thigh posterior to the inguinal ligament, just medial to the anterior superior iliac spine
• it supplies the skin on the anterolateral surface of the thigh

Pathology

Injury:

• numbness & paresthesia
