Function

• motor function
  • L1-L2: hip flexion
  • L3-L4: hip adduction
  • L5: hallux dorsiflexion
• sensory function
  • L4: dorsomedial foot
  • L5: dorsal foot

Structure

• nerves emerging from the lumbar spinal cord (L1-L5)
• the nerves exit the intervertebral foramen below the corresponding lumbar vertebrae
• L1-L4 enter into formation of the lumbar plexus
• L4 & L5 enter into formation of the sacral plexus
