Introduction

Threads of filamentous proteins of myofibrils in striated muscle.

Thick filaments contain myosin; thin ones contain actin.

Thick & thin myofilaments also occur in smooth muscle, but are not regularly arranged as myofibrils & do not give the appearance of striation.
