Etiology
Epidemiology
- up to 50% of patients receiving dialysis for more than 5 years
Clinical manifestations
- fever
- pain
- hematuria
- infection
- erythrocytosis
Radiology
- annual renal ultrasound to screen for renal cell carcinoma in patients who are candidates for renal transplantation
Complications
- adenomas in 5-10%
- adenocarcinomas in 1.5%
- 30-fold increased risk of renal cell carcinoma with acquired form[1]
Management
- tolvaptan approved for use in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is not useful in acquired form[1]
