• inherited disorders of osteolysis may be referred to as vanishing bone syndrome
• post-traumatic osteolysis
  • osteolysis in joint replacement
  • distal clavicular osteolysis in weightlifters
• osteolysis of bone metastases
• Pagets disease
• renal osteodystrophy
• untreated or undertreated osteomyelitis
• workers exposed to polyvinylchloride or vapors

Pathology

• softening, absorption & destruction of bone by osteoclasts

Complications

• pathologic fractures
