Epidemiology
- mammalian carnivores are the usual host for adult organisms
- dogs may become infested from ingesting infective larvae from viscera of sheep, cattle or rabbits
- herbivores may become infested with larvae from water or vegetation contaminated with carnivore feces
- human infestation is common in the Middle East, especially Sudan following ingestion of incysted larvae in raw liver or lymph nodes of sheep & goats (see halzoun)
