Introduction

Helicobacter are small (0.5-0.8 uM long by 0.2-0.5 uM wide), motile, non-spore-forming, curved (comma-shaped) or S-shaped gram-negative bacilli, resembling Campylobacter. They grow optimally in an atmosphere containing 5-10% oxygen, thus are considered microaerophilic.
