normoblast

Introduction

A nucleated erythroid progenitor cell. It is the immediate erythrocyte precursor in humans.

Four stages of normoblast maturation include:

• pronormoblast
• basophilic normoblast
• polychromatic normoblast
• orthochromatic normoblast

Laboratory

• normoblast count
  • normoblasts in blood from fetus
    • normoblasts in cord blood
