enteroendocrine cell (Kulchitsky cell)

Introduction

Endocrine cells scattered throughout the digestive tract, producing at least 20 different gastrointestinal hormones & neurotransmitters. The cells contain argentaffinic or argyrophilic granules. It is hypothesized that the enteroendocrine cell is the cell of small cell carcinoma origin.
