Introduction

From the Greek kryptos meaning hidden. Discovered in 1898 by William Ramsay & Morris Travers.

Occurrence

  • obtained from fractional distillation of liquid air
  • found in air at about 1 ppm

Characteristics

  • colorless relatively inert gaseous element
