Introduction
A brittle, more or less transparent, usually red silicate mineral with a vitreous luster. It occurs many in crystals, but also in massive forms & in grains. It is found commonly in gneis & micca schist. Garnet is used as a semiprecious stone & as an abrasive.
Hardness: 6.5-7.5.
Sp Gr. 3.15-4.3.
