iothalamate (Conray, Conray-400)

Introduction

Tradenames: Conray. (iothalamate meglumine) Conray-400 (iothalamate sodium)

Indications

• parenteral agent for radiographic procedures (Conray)
• parenteral agent used in urography, angiocardiography, & aortography

Contraindications

Caution:

• patients should be observed for 30-60 minutes for immediate hypersensitivity reactions
• resuscitation equipment should be available prior to administration

Dosage

Injection:

• iothalamate meglumine: 60% (30 mL, 50 mL, 100 mL, 150 mL)
• iothalamate sodium: 66.8% (50 mL)

Mechanism of action

• IV contrast agent: ionic, high osmolality.
