Introduction
Tradename: Antiminth. (pyrantel pamoate)
Indications
- intestinal nematodes (helminth infection)
- Ancylostoma duodenale
- uncinariasis
- Necator americanus
- Ascaris lumbricoides
- Enterobius vermicularis
- Trichostrongyloidiasis
- moniliformis[4]
Contraindications
- avoid during pregnancy
Dosage
- pinworms & roundworms: 11 mg/kg up to 1 g PO single dose
Suspension: 50 mg/mL.
Mechanism of action
- acts by inducing neuromuscular paralysis in the nematode which allows the host to expell them
