Introduction
Tradename: Nexium. Generic approved Jan 2015[3]
S-isomer of omeprazole (racemic mixture of S & R isomers).
Dosage
- 20-40 mg QD 1 hour before meals
Capsules: 20 & 40 mg (OK to open capsule & mix with a small amount of applesauce)
Nexium IV for intravenous infusion
Pharmacokinetics
- both S & R isomers (omeprazole) are effective, but the S-isomer (esomeprazole) is metabolized more slowly
elimination via liver
1/2life = 0.5-1.5 hours
protein binding = 95 %

- hypomagnesemia ?
