Introduction

Indications

diabetes mellitus type-2

Dosage

• start 25 mg PO QD with food
• maintenance: 50-100 mg TID

Tabs: 25, 50, 100 mg.

Monitor

• post-prandial glucose
• hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c)
• no need to monitor liver function

Mechanism of action

• inhibits alpha-glucosidase
• delays breakdown of complex carbohydrates in the intestine
• reduces HgbA1c levels in patients with type-2 diabetes
