Introduction
A tumor of the glomus body.
Pathology
- smooth-muscle-like glomus cells in the tunica media surrounding distended vascular lumens
Genetics
Clinical manifestations
- exquisitely tender subungual papule or nodule
- paroxysmal painful attacks, especially elicited by exposure to cold
- generally occur as solitary subungual tumors
- may occur as multiple papules or nodules (glomangiomas)
- glomangioma do not occur underneath the nail
- may occur anywhere on the skin surface
- largely vascular rather than solid as a solitary lesions
- may also be found on the tympanic membrane (glomus tympanicum)
