Leydig (hilus) cell tumor

Epidemiology

• ~ 15% of steroid cell tumors

Pathology

• ~1-15 cm diameter
• well circumscribed
• often hemorrhagic

Microscopic pathology

• Reinke's crystalloids
• sheets/cords/nests
• uniform rounded or polyhedral cells
• large central nuclei, prominant nucleolus
• finely granular eosinophilic cytoplasm, may have vacuoles
• fibrinoid degeneration of large blood vessels

Clinical manifestations

• hirsutism and virilism in ~80%
• occasionally estrogenic manifestations
