Indications
Principle
- laser irradiation of lesion that have selectively taken up systemically or locally administered porphyrin derivatives allows selective destruction of lesions
- photodynamic therapy for actinic keratoses depends upon formation protoporphyrin IX from topically applied 5-aminolevulenic acid (ALA) or methyl aminolevulinic acid
Notes
- conversion of 5-aminolevulenic acid (ALA) or methyl aminolevulinic acid to protoporphyrin IX is slower in the elderly[2]
More general terms
More specific terms
- endoscopic ablation by photodynamic therapy
- photodynamic therapy for skin cancer/lip cancer/premalignant skin lesion
