Function
- voltage-independent K+ channel activated by intracellular Ca+2
- intermediate/small conductance
- activation is followed by membrane hyperpolarization
- regulates neuronal excitability by contributing to slow component of synaptic after hyperpolarization
- channel is blocked by apamin
Structure
- hetero-oligomer
- 4 channel subunits each of which binds to a calmodulin subunit which regulates the channel activity through Ca+2-binding
- belongs to the K+ channel KCNN family KCa2.2/KCNN2 subfamily
Compartment
membrane
Expression
widely expressed
