• specific electron acceptor for several dehydrogenases
  • 5 acyl-CoA dehydrogenases
  • glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase
  • sarcosine dehydrogenase
• transfers electrons to the main mitochondrial respiratory chain via ETF-ubiquinone oxidoreductase (ETF dehydrogenase)

• heterodimer of an alpha & a beta subunit

• mitochondrial matrix

Expression

• abundant in liver, heart & skeletal muscle
• weak expression is seen in the brain, placenta, lung, kidney & pancreas
