Introduction
~200 amino acid domain well conserved across species.
Contains 6 conserved motifs A to F.
A conserved Arg in motif is critical for full GAP activity.
The conserved Arg probably functions as a catalytic arginine finger analogous to that seen in ras & rhoGAPs.
The name TBC derives from the murine protein Tbc1. (see TBC1 domain family member)
The name PTM derives from 3 proteins known to contain it:
- Drosophila pollux
- human oncoprotein TRE17
- myeloid cell line-expressed protein
Appears to contain catalytic activities of yeast rab GAPs
