Function
- neurotrophic for cerebellar granule cells
- inhibits microglial growth
- induces neuronal differentiation in retinoblastoma cells
- inhibitor of angiogenesis in cornea & vitreous, produced by retinal cells
- extracellular phosphorylation enhances antiangiogenic activity
Structure
- shares homology with serpin family proteins but does not inhibit proteases
- N-terminus is blocked
- the N-terminal (AA 44-121) exhibits neurite outgrowth- inducing activity
- the C-terminal exposed loop (AA 382-418) is essential for serpin activity
- belongs to the serpin family
Compartment
Expression
- retinal pigment epithelial cells
- blood plasma
- expressed in quiescent cells
