Jump to search
Function
- retinol dehydrogenase with a clear preference for NADP
- converts all-trans-retinol to all-trans-retinal
- no detectable activity towards 11-cis-retinol, 9-cis-retinol & 13-cis-retinol
- retinoic acid biosynthesis, first (rate-limiting) step
Retinol + NADP+ <--> retinal + NADPH
Structure
- belongs to the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family
Compartment
- microsome membrane
Expression
- detected in retina, kidney, liver, small intestine, placenta, lung, heart & skeletal muscle
