Function

• hydrolyzes 3-beta-hydroxy steroid sulfates
• conversion of sulfated steroid precursors to estrogens during pregnancy

Cofactor: binds 1 Ca+2 per subunit

Structure

• homodimer belongs to the sulfatase family

• defects in STS are the cause of X-linked ichthyosis
