Function
- may be involved in assembly, secretion & targeting of TGFB1 to sites at which it is stored &/or activated
- may play role in controlling & directing the activity of TGFB1
- may have a structural role in the extra cellular matrix (ECM)
- forms part of the large latent TGF-beta precursor complex; removal is essential for activation of complex
- interacts with LTBP1 & TGFB1
- binds to FBN1
- contains hydroxylated asparagine residues (putative)
Structure
- belongs to the LTBP family
- contains 16 EGF-like domains
- contains 4 TGFBP (TGF-beta binding protein) repeats
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=4
Expression
- expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas, uterus, & small intestine > placenta & lung > fetal brain, liver, heart, spleen & thymus
