Function
- catalyzes degradation of compounds including: putrescine, histamine, spermine, & spermidine, substances involved in allergic & immune responses, cell proliferation, tissue differentiation, tumor formation, & possibly apoptosis
- placental DAO is thought to play a role in the regulation of female reproductive function
- topaquinone is generated by copper-dependent autoxidation of a specific Tyr
- inhibited by amiloride (competitive inhibition)
RCH(2)NH(2) + H2O + O2 <--> RCHO + NH3 + H2O2
Cofactor:
- binds 1 copper ion per subunit (putative)
- binds 2 Ca+2 per subunit (putative)
- contains 1 topaquinone per subunit (putative)
Structure
belongs to the copper/topaquinone oxidase family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
placenta & kidney
