Introduction
An adhesion of fine strands of fibrin.
Etiology
- surgical procedure
- 80-90% of patients who undergo open abdominal or pelvic surgery[2]
- less frequent after laparoscopic surgery than open surgery (~50%)[2]
- hospital readmissions directly related to adhesions (1.7% for laparoscopy vs 4.3% for open surgery)[2]
