Function
- cleaves proteins, imported into the mitochondria, to their mature form
- release of an N-terminal octapeptide as 2nd stage of processing of some proteins imported into mitochondria
- activity is divalent cation-dependent; it is stimulated by Mn+2, Mg+2 or Ca+2 & reversibly inhibited by Zn+2, Co+2 & Fe+2/Fe+3
- binds 1 Zn+2
