Introduction
Streptococci that produce active hemolysins (streptolysin O & S) which cause a clear zone of hemolysis on blood agar media.
Classification
- beta-hemolytic streptococci are divided into groups A-O on the basis of cell wall C carbohydrate (Lancefield classification)
