Clinical significance
- clinically useful:
- as a tumor marker for residual thyroid cancer
- to differentiate factitious thyrotoxicosis (low thyroglobulin) from true hyperthyroidism

- hyperthyroidism
- thyroiditis
- variable levels with nodular thyroid disease
