  • mediates both removal of the leader peptide from proteins containing a PTS2 target sequence & specific processing of PTS1 proteins
  • role in peroxisomal beta-oxidation of fatty acids (putative)
  • processed into 49 kD & 10 kD forms upon import into peroxisomes
  • 49 kD form probably corresponds to t mature enzyme
  • 10 kD form may represent an inhibitory N-terminal fragment which prevents protease activity until it reaches peroxisomes
