Indications

• test functional significance of renal artery stenosis
• unilateral renal parenchymal disease as etiology of hypertension
• test presence of renin-secreting renal neoplasm

Notes

• a positive test is indicated by renin-activity of 1.5 times the contralateral side
• in some patients, effect may only be apparent after administration of furosemide
