Function
- filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase.
- may play a role in cytokinesis
- septins polymerize into heterooligomeric protein complexes that form filaments, & can associate with cellular membranes, actin filaments & microtubules
- GTPase activity is required for filament formation (putative)
Structure
- belongs to the septin family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- ubiquitous
- abundantly expressed in heart & kidney, placenta, skeletal muscles, liver & lung
Pathology
- expressed in various tumor cell lines
