- catalyzes irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kinurenine to form kynurenic acid
- may catalyze the beta-elimination of S-conjugates & Se-conjugates of L-selenocysteine, resulting in the cleavage of the C-S or C-Se bond (putative)
